The GT3-R based on the 911 GT3, is powered by a water cooled Porsche F6 4v DOHC of 3600 cc; transmission is a manual G96/61 six speed cable controlled. According to the 2002 ACO/FIA Regulations, front nose and tail section, front fenders, front and rear hood, fender flares, rear tail and lid are carbon Kevlar, aerodynamically optimized. Doors, side and rear windows are made of plastic. The total weight is approx. 1100 Kg as per Le Mans regulations.
The race
Owned by the German RWS Motorsport, two GT3-R have been entered to the 40th Daytona 24 Hours, year 2002. Car no. 9 in GT class and car no. 7, subject of this article, in GTS class. Driven by Riccitelli (Italy), Quester (Austria), Vosse (Belgium) and Said (USA) the car had no particular success in this race: 28th on the grid, did not finish because of an engine failure after 404 laps. The yet stunning standard Red Bull livery, at Daytona, has been improved with a big American flag painted from the front fender across the roof up to the rear fender.
The model
The result showed below, is a mix of Tamiya 1/24 Porsche 911 GT3, Scale Production GT3-R transkit, Quik Skins BMW M3 Gtr wheels, Scale Production and Carpena Red Bull decals sets.
The Tamiya GT3 is a curbside model, lovely as usual, with the exception of the doors fenders (definitely oversized), taillights and headlights in the area of the turn signals (too simplified).
