The Lexus LFA is one of the so-called “supercars” conceived as a racing prototype and a production model. One of its main features is the extensive use of carbon fiber, its V10 engine, and the chassis which is separable from the monocoque for maintenance purposes. Tamiya has done something really remarkable in reproducing some of the aerodynamic and mechanical features, such as the adjustable spoiler, which makes this kit the “flagship” of its 1/24 sports car line. Our main goal in this note is to help the novice modeler in the building and finishing of this Tamiya super kit.
Painting the body
As I usually do, I started my work with the body which means going to Step 20 in the instruction manual. I glued parts F9 and F10 (they are the air intakes in the body) I used thick glue for this part so I had the chance to reposition the parts before the glue sets, ditto for parts F11 and F12. |

Once the glue hardened I sanded the joint with #800 sandpaper in order to eliminate any excess glue. To fill the gaps I used CA glue, I use a needle to apply the glue and then sand to smooth the joint. Finally I applied Mr. Hobby Surface 500 over the joints and sanded with #1200 wet-or-dry sandpaper.
