It has been a while since I last built a rally car model in 1/24 scale. Well, I will not tease the rally fans any longer and get to work: I decided to use a CBCom transkit to convert a Ford Escort group A into a Ford Escort WRC. I'm talking about the Ford Escort used by Belgian rally drivers Patrick Snijers and Dany Colebunders during the 1997 Circuit des Ardennes Rally which unfortunately they didn't finish.
Building
Preparing the transkit parts took me all day long. To start with, I had to cut away the original front bumper in order to make room for the resin WRC bumper. But the resin bumper is a disaster (just like any other resin part of this transkit by the way) because it has plenty of air bubbles, and on top of this it is way to large: it's 2mm wider than the body on both sides, so the bumper doesn't even touch the wheel arches of the Escort! So what I did was filling up the gaps between the bumper and the arches with a thick blob of Milliput, let it dry for a day, and sand away 2mm of the resin bumper exterior at either side.
