Before opening the box, I advise you to take some time to admire the beautiful artwork decorating the box. True artists produce time after time gorgeous illustrations at the Tamiya factory, reflecting a perfect image of how beautiful a model you will find inside. On condition that you are willing to invest some time and effort of course. And to help you I will try to guide you through the building process to achieve this goal.
The kit consists of 122 plastic parts, divided over four sprues in the colors black, grey, red and clear, two rubber tires, a bag with the rear shock absorber, some tiny screws and a screwdriver, some black hose, a decal sheet and of course the instruction sheet. |

To build the model the same way I did, you will also need aside from the original 1/12 Tamiya-kit (#14101) the following aftermarket sets : the Tamiya 1/12 scale Ducati Desmosedici front fork set (#12605), the Tamiya 1/12 scale Ducati Desmosedici photo-etched stand set (#12606), the 1/12 Ducati Desmosedici mechanical parts photo-etched special set by Acu-Stion, the Ducati Desmosedici Marlboro decal set by Renaissance (#MTk 12/010) (this is not the set you see at the early pictures as I would discover rather unpleasantly!), some CF-decalsheets by Scale Motorsport and Studio27 (different patterns) and last but not least some 0,4mm piping cord by Model Factory Hiro. Those are the main items.
Since I’m planning to do a superdetailing job, I order the book “Moto GP Racer’s Archive 2004” as a reference document, a very valuable document if you want to dispose of original reference pictures which will make life a lot easier when you want to superdetail this model. I also plan on building the Marlboro version, so I decide to buy the Marlboro decals by Acu-Stion, on top of (and before) the already mentioned other aftermarket-sets. I’d soon find out how indispensable this book really is, when I discovered by reading it that the Acu-Stion Marlboro decals I purchased are the wrong ones for the 2004 machine. That is why I didn’t mention the set earlier, because it’s simply wrong. If I’d had enough patience to wait until the book arrived, I would have spared myself a lot of trouble, but as you will read next I wanted to get a head start which
eventually cost me more time instead of saving time…
