Certainly, Italeri offer us a kit that, once finished, is really a beautiful and shocking model due to its size, we are not accustomed to seeing a Fiat 500 in 1/12 scale. There is very little to be changed or improved to make the most of it. Unfortunately, some construction steps are not easy to understand and instructions are not always clear. In this respect, Italeri did nothing to facilitate the modelers’ work, and assembling the headlights, window frames, bodywork, etc., are a bit complicated. I think this is a complicated model for newcomers, while the experienced modellers will find an excellent base to enjoy and carry out all kind of improvements.
I built the model almost out of the box, enhancing the painting and assembling was correct and error free as far as possible, and I think it will be an excellent guide for those who want to face this project, having in advance the difficulties you’ll have to face and a good painting guide. |

This article is dedicated to Alain Bouldouyre, a great draughtsman and illustrator, a Fiat 500 enthusiast His drawings are in advertisements of the car published in several specialized magazines of the time (Rétroviseur, L'Auto Journal). In 1968 he converted the 500 of his mother into the 595 esseEsse, after an epic voyage made to Corso Marche, at Abarth, in 1969. At that time, he also wrote an article, published in Champion!

Tordons d'abord le cou à une idée reçue...A l'époque, la Fiat 500, héritière de la 500 C de 1936, n'a jamais été surnommée le "pot de yaourt"! C'est sa petite cousine… l'Isetta qui, par sa couleur et forme même était un "pot de yaourt".
Énorme succès commercial, la FIAT Nuova 500 est, aujourd'hui encore le symbole d'une Italie des années 50/60.. d'une dolce Vita plus accessible et populaire que Ferrari ou Maserati qui hantaient la ViaVeneto. Voiture urbaine mais aussi 2ème voiture familiale elle a accompagné les débuts...au volant et dans la vie... de tous les "baby Boomers !
Une voiture fiable, robuste..une vraie voiture de 2m97 de long avec un moteur de 500cc, bicylindre, refroidi par air qui donnait un peu plus de 18cv, bien vaillants, transformés en pur sangs de 35 à 40 CV (!!) par les sorciers Abarth ou Giannini. La 500 a été inventée, crée, voulue par un génie du design automobile italien: Dante Giacosa. Il fit toute sa carrière chez Fiat mais a su marquer par cette création, l'histoire de l'automobile.
Ce fut.. c'est encore..la plus grande réussite commerciale de FIAT, qui aujourd'hui encore, en surfant sur une vague néo rétro revisite avec succès son passé (récit par Alain Bouldouyre).
