If you like 1/16 tanks models and even more radio controlled, this tutorial is for you. Some time ago, the new kit from Classy Hobby surprised me, it was the Luchs, a Light Reconnaissance Tank built at late WWII, but in spite of being my favourite scale, building static models is not to my liking so, I let it go.
When guys from 35 RC tank offered the conversion kit, I got excited and decided to buy the Classy Hobby kit and the conversion .
This tutorial aims at sharing with the reader my experience in the construction of this radio controlled model, and even will be useful for those who build it as a static model, since the reviews say much about the kit but little about the problems I found.
Construction : conversion first
I first bought the plastic kit and while I waited for the conversion of the 35RC tank, I started to make the necessary modifications taking as guide the online instructions.
If you are going to build the RC version, I recommend you to follow the 35RC tank instructions, making the necessary modifications, accompanying the job with the Luchs instructions.
I started mounting the kit tracks, they don’t need extra parts and will be necessary to align the sprocket wheels.
Next step was to glue together the sprocket wheels parts (D63,64), they would be necessary for the following steps. I was surprised at seeing that the interior and exterior teeth were misaligned, nothing important for a static model but it’s vital to be aligned in a RC. In the following images you may appreciate how to check the teeth alignment.
As there are two instruction manuals to follow, I’ll refer to the Classy Hobby steps as Step 1CH and to the 35RC tank as Step 1RC.
