The arrival of the Tamiya kit to the market was a partial surprise. Although, it’s true that outside of Japan this was not a subject that modelers were crying out for, due to their history Tamiya felt that it was almost a must to manufacture the most recent Japanese MBT. In spite that it is not an interesting vehicle for the occidental modeling world, the new Tamiya kit is always welcome.
First impression, as it happens with the kits of this brand is highly positive. Details are well defined, fit of parts is perfect, no flash and free of ejector pin marks in visible places, high quality green styrene (though grey would have been better) and overall, a first line level of presentation and finish. |
|
But as it happens with all the kits, there can always be hidden problems, and even though the first impression is positive, the final verdict comes with the assembly. There we go!!
Construction
The fit of parts is perfect in the full sense of the word, this is why no major problems were encountered during assembly. I´ll just indicate the potentially conflictive points which you will have to pay special attention to.
Don’t make a mistake with the idler wheels cause they’re similar to the rolling wheels. At first sight the main difference is that the idler one is narrower. In the picture, we can appreciate the rolling wheel on the left and the idler one, on the right.
Besides, the axles of the idler wheels (A16) have several possible positions. They were glued for the minimum track tension, so in the way that they stay far from the fender, otherwise the track would touch the fender.
