Plastic versus diecast
By Mario Covalski
This month’s editorial is going to be focused on two subjects: our sixth anniversary and a short analysis of a phenomenon that has been increasing on and on, during the past years….the diecast models.
In April 2000, Modeler Site started timidly a way that led us to turn into an online plastic modeling magazine. Along this time, we’ve all played our part in order that some myths are not still alive, showing in a very humble way, a different view of life, modeling and Internet, considering we’re doing the right, but leaving space for good incoming ideas.
What should readers, who monthly surf our pages, and newcomers expect for the near future? Basically, we’ll go on improving the quality of our articles, putting special emphasis on “how ” and “why” we aim at handing our knowledge and skills on to the novices to this activity, helping them to get the most from their hobby.
As well, we’ll giving up the usual monthly publication keeping a graphic art on the cover but publishing news and articles as they are ready to be on line. So, it would not be rare to see the same “cover “ during a couple of months, but with weekly news.
In recent years, the manufacture and distribution of diecast models have increased vertiginously. Cars, motorcycles, military vehicles…etc, are of an amazing quality and many of us would not be capable of reaching those standards.
The question is: Does plastic modeling run the risk of being “absorbed” by diecast?.
To answer this, we should have to analyze previously, the motivation of most of the modelers who build kits, especially cars and motorcycles. Honestly, I think that as always happens in life, the pleasure is found in making more than in possessing, and this is the key why plastic modeling stays alive.
While fans of this activity, still find projects to carry through and obstacles to overcome, we’ll go one building scale models. In fact, we, modelers, are more worried about the boxes containing our future projects than about our showcases.
Modeling is to make a dream coming true, and I believe, that nobody wants to collect others’ dreams…. do you understand what I mean?
As on every anniversary, we send a warm embrace and our most sincere thanks to everybody, who in any way, is here supporting us to go ahead.
