Read More here > Legal notice The new kit from Italeri offered in 2010 is a re-box of the Academy British Tank Destroyer Achilles #1392 released some years ago with the only differences being a new decal sheet and instruction sheet, to be distributed in Europe. Since time ago, I wanted to add the M10 to my collection of armoured vehicles and although there are other available brands such as AFV Cllub and the old Tamiya, this Italeri/Academy kit came to my hands and thought that it was worth the try to get a good model with it.
The primary aim of this article is to share with the reader the work made on the kit, focusing myself on the showy livery I chose for it.
They belong to different armies and scenarios, like the Polish tank in Italy and Holland; and the British in Belgium and Holland, the last one with the typical Mickey Mouse camo pattern which I chose for this article. Also the kit provides two styles of drive wheels and return rollers, two transmission covers (rounded and sharp nose), two kinds of towing loops, two types of towing hitches, positionable driver's and radioman's hatches, and an additional 30 caliber machine gun. A complete set of ammunition is provided, and as in the real M10 they are stored in tubes in the hull and turret. Parts are very well detailed, finely moulded, and allow to represent the vehicle interior, though there are no PE parts supplied. I added some PE part from my spare box to build the jerricans fastening straps. Numerous other details are also provided including the jerry cans, ammunition boxes and other supplies that even are not mentioned in the instructions and can be perfectly added to the vehicle since they used to be always very loaded. For my part, I also added canvas bedrolls taken from the Academy Allied & German Tank Supplies set #1382. Construction I started assembling the interiors, painting and then protecting with masking tape. The fit of parts is very good. The very notorious ejector pin marks visible in several parts, had to be filled with putty.
