Read More here > Legal notice The Zil 157 is par excellence perhaps, a general purpose cargo truck and troops transport and for its performance it also served as the tractor for the SA-2 missiles. Although its production stopped many decades ago, still it can be seen in several countries. One of the users of this truck was Egypt and this is the version I decided to do.
The Trumpeter kit (#01001) comes from years ago but belongs to the epoch of the good kits from this Chinese company. There are three versions: One is the subject of this article, other the version of the Chinese manufacturer recognizable for the square fenders and the third is the improved Zil-157k which was manufactured until 1978. It’s a very complete kit and well presented inside the box. I decided to improve it with the Eduard PE set #35670 and Trakz resin wheels to replace the ones supplied with the kit, its most weak part. Construction Assembly is straightforward if you follow the instruction steps exactly. The problem is that the version I wanted to represent was a load truck but without cargo box and with the open hood, that’s to say a version with visible engine. The PE was very useful especially for the engine bay and the cab interior. Not only to replace the kit parts but also to add the missing details. The engine is correct but there are some details missing. I had to cover the firewall with a 0,2mm thin plastic part to hide the ejector pin marks.
