Nissan in collaboration with Autech Japan have made a higher-end performance version of the Fairlady Z called the Nissan Fairlady Z Version NISMO. It received many changes such as a redesigned hood, change of tires to Bridgestone Potenza RE050A (from Potenza RE040); adoption of the VQ35HR engine, which delivers maximum power of 230 kW (313 PS)/6800 rpm, maximum torque of 358 N-m (36.5 kg-m)/4800 rpm and top engine speed of 7500 rpm, exclusive rear bumper, large-diameter sports muffler etc. The aim of this article is to share with the reader, the building process and painting of the model making special emphasis on the paint and problems the kit could have.

 

Body

The preparation of the body started by sanding the mold lines with #800; they are not easy to remove especially those which are on the rear bumper.

Then, I rescribed all the panel lines with the back edge of the blade. It’s better not to achieve this task in the windshield and rear window contours because on those areas, plastic is relatively thin.

As the body is injected in white plastic, I omitted applying a primer coat, however the surface should be absolutely perfect.

I sanded the entire surface with #800 wet sanding paper and then with #1200, once dry I could see the imperfections I would correct. Finally, a wet sanding with #1500 and a careful wash to get the body ready for paint.
