Since time ago, I’ve been thinking to add a wheeled vehicle to my Middle East vehicles collection. Looking for an interesting kit, I found the Revell Gaz-66 (ref.03051), which is also marketed by Eastern Express. However, after investigating, I realized that there were just a few versions to accomplish Quite apart from the soviet green, there was not much to play.

The inspiration...

Talking about this topic with friends, new ideas came to my mind, and the one that liked me best was to convert the sober civil cargo truck into a tactical truck....with a few modifications.

The idea was then to accomplish a civil vehicle, captured by Middle East paramilitary groups loaded with a recoilless gun. I don’t have reference pictures showing something similar, but there are countless evidences of vehicles with such modifications not only at African but also at Middle East scenarios.

When starting this project, nothing was entirely clear to me. Contrary to previous kits, the historical faithfulness didn’t mind. And this was the key to go on and have fun.

The kits

This is not a bad kit. It lacks of some details but I think the level is acceptable though offering some problems of fit. As it was said beforehand, Eastern Express as well as Model Russia market the same kit, and among the versions in box, we can choose either a transporter version, other with antiaircraft ZU-23-2 or two miscellaneous versions.

Assembly

The assembly doesn’t offer important difficulties, but here’s the moment to make a decision: Simplify the kit or superdetail it . I decided to do the first but paying attention to some details.
